ONLINE GUIDES TO CRITICAL APPRAISAL

After diagnostic and therapeutic studies, the EBM 'domains' most commonly used by our EBR group have been Clinical Practice Guidelines, Review Articles (Overviews), Prognosis, Screening and Economic Analysis. Here are some links to help you appraise these types of publication.

1. Appraise a Clinical Practice Guideline

Also, the Gruppo Italiano per la Medicina Bassata sulle Evidenze GIMBE have a web page dedicated to all aspects of guideline appraisal. It is very comprehensive, contains many useful links and is definitely well worth a visit if you are interested in this topic. One of the links is to a Guideline Appraisal Instrument (St. George's Medical School, UK, 1999) which can be printed off, filled in and kept with the appraised guideline for future reference.

2. Appraise a Review article (Overview)

3. Appraise an article on Prognosis

4. Appraise an article on Screening

5. Appraise an Economic Analysis

No, the study I wish to appraise is not one of these; I would like to link to ‘All Users Guides
